The Good Side

Cape Eagle Owl

A2 - Oil, Acrylics and Pen

on

300gsm Aquafine DR Paper

This Owl has a remarkable story.

He was hit by a vehicle on a remote dirt road in the Klein Karoo.

After his rescue he was taken to a Vet in Worcester, where he recieved the most amazing care.

He suffered a broken wing, a broken leg, a ruptured right eye and eardrum, and  Damage to his facial bones.

All were repaired, except for his Eye and Eardrum. He lived his life out with us as an uncaged bird.

I decided to paint his good side, we all have a right to be remembered at our best.

Tsamma Gemsbok

Seeing a Gemsbok in its natural environmentis one of the most special memories I have of traveling through the vast Kalahari landscape.

They are highly adapted animals, able to live in the harsh unforgiving desert regions - and during foraging sessions they use their long horns to assist the digging process to find juicy Tsamma melons.

This is one a series of Antelope in progress in my studio, and the first one of the series I have sold - now living on the esteemed Arrabella Estate in the OVerberg.

Seal

My first ever painting sold.

I came home one day after work, and I felt like challenging myself a bit, and I needed at least 30min to wind down after a difficult day.

I wet a piece of paper... grabbed a brush and slapped this guy onto the page from seeing an image a few weeks back of something similar.

Loved it, love him... He is now living in Australia with a gorgeous lady who loves Pinni's.

Silver-eared Mesia

Thinking outside of the box is always difficult. For years I drew only on black paper with pastels as I found it a very safe and quick medium & surface.

to reinvent the way we think, to challenge ourselves, even if we are super scared is part of a transformation every single person should go through once (or every day) of their lives.

This was the first painting where I really just let go. I started off painting the bird to perfection... & when it was done - it was just another painting... so I dropped paint & spat air all over the painting - amazed at the result... & it has become a signature style which i lean back on every now & again when I need to break away for realism in my Deicate Fine art.

Off to the UK

Blue Cranes abound in the Overberg, & this was my first time I tried my hand at painting a Blue Crane - trying to capture their sheer freedom. From a large bird a small birdie! When a client from the UK, also a researcher in the Overberg, bought the Blue Crane - she decided to give my inked Flycather a home too.

Blue Crane - A1, Acrylics

Flycather - A5, Indian Ink

Living Local

Secretary bird & Joy were both lovely laze afternoon artpieces. Spending time just staring at a blanc page for hours I refuse to get up and walk away - I do not leave before I have done at least one sketch - but then when I do start sketching I end up doing more than one... They actually start pouring out!!!!

These two beauties both live in Napier now.

Both pieces in A5 - Indian Ink, Watercolour and pen
