Fire Awareness

Many of my South African followers can remember the iconic Grysbokkie that adorned the signboards along the Cape roads, warning people about the dangers of wildfires, since 1962.

I had the privilege of revamping this iconic little gem for the Greater Overberg FPA (‪#‎goFPA‬) recently as part of their upcoming fire protection and awareness campaign.

I remember crying my eyes out every time I saw those signboards as a child, thinking about how these animals must feel when a fire rages around them...

All three paintings are done in Watercolour, Acrylics and various other mediums - A2 in size. And they were all digitzed afterwards and will be used together or apart in relevance to their campaign.

Novelle Illustrations

Writing the story of your life is such a noble thing to do, knowing that you are leaving a piece of yourself for generations to come, and sharing memories of how things were...

Adding illustrations to a novelle can bring a story completely to life, depicting not just characters that had an impact on your life, but also areas where you lost your heart and still visit to find your soul..

Dungbeetle 2

Dungbeetles seem to be very popular with art lovers.

I inked a dungbeetle and almost turfed it in the bin...

I ended up posting it to

facebook

in any case

"because we need to embrace our bad "art" too".

it sold in 5 min.

I have had to paint 8 more dungbeetles which have been shipped

all over the world.

The top piece is the one commissioned piece, and the one below it is the original dungbeetle painting I almost threw away...

More commissions of dungbeetles are most welcome!!!

Splatter Bird Series

After painting the southern black Korhaan a friend from Cape Town, whom is an avid naturalist, commissioned a Southern Ground-hornbill in the same tones to compliment each other.

The colours worked perfectly.

Then I found an old photograph of a Sociable Weaver, I knew it was going to be perfect for a splatter painting.

I took a chance and sent her a photograph and she immediately grabbed it, and commission a Scaly-feathered Finch to accompany it.

I must admit that these are some of my favourite types of paintings.

A5 - Ink, Watercolour on 300gsm Aquafine paper.

Inkbird

My first try at working with Ink, a commission by my lovely mother in law - referenced from a painting she saw online - to suite her classy minimilistic interior of her new home.

I find Ink to be one of the most expressive mediums available to me as an artist - I love the fluidity, the implied texturization and the faced paced application needed to alter depth and definition.

This picture was the start of Ink journey - which has now influenced most of my art in one way or the other.

A5 + - Ink, 300gsm paper.

Malachite Kingfisher

this colourful bird was commissioned by a friend for his birthday - from memories of spending time with his children on the rivers in Wilderness, South Africa. I loved layering watercolour, Acrylics & a bit of oilpaint. Eventually working in the details using pen, Metalic & colour pencils, as well as pastels - a real conglomeration of everything I could get my hands on.

A2 - on 300gsm paperboard.

Birdies for a new home

Our family is nuts about birds - we love them in every form and shape (except for thos loud and crass domesticated parrot types).

These two were commissioned for a new house, and each has a special memory or story.

A6 - Watercolour, Ink and Pen on 300gsm card.

Commissioned by, and staying in, the family!
